DESCRIPTION:

DAY 1 - Level One Fracture Course:  Practical Application of Fracture Management Systems
This course is designed for the veterinarian who wishes to master the basics of canine fracture repair. The textbook assignment portion of the course includes a study of bone fracture fundamentals; including soft tissue healing, bone healing, forces acting on bone, fracture assessment, and fracture classification. The textbook assignment also provides in-depth description of common orthopedic device mechanics, such as with cerclage wire, intramedullary pins, dynamic compression plates, locking plates, and external fixators. The course lecture briefly reviews the mechanics of common orthopedic constructs and demonstrates the use of each using ‘workshop modeling’. The hands-on portion of the course will focus on the application of dynamic compression plates, cerclage wire, tension bands, and the Securos Surgical External Fixator System using this modeling.

This is a Level One course in the Securos University Fracture Program.

DAY 2 - Level Two Fracture Course:  Common Fractures of the Pelvic Limb
This course is designed for the veterinarian who wishes to learn the application of principles taught during the Level One Fracture Course. This course focuses on tibial fracture and mid-shaft femur fracture repair using the Securos Surgical External Fixator system, Salter II distal femur fracture repair using pins, and the FHO technique. The lecture includes discussion of preoperative planning, postoperative care, and live demonstrations of each technique. The hands-on portion of the course will focus on the application of each technique to canine cadavers.

This is a Level Two course in the Securos University Fracture Program.
